Customizing NextGen Quick View

Customizing NextGen Quick View

Do your providers spend valuable clinic time reviewing plans from past visits? Would they prefer a quicker way to review so they could spend more time with their patients?

Quick View/Summary View is a feature introduced in NextGen version 5.8 UD2 to enable users to see historical and current patient information from two sliding side panels. These side panels or tabs conveniently slide out while the provider is documenting on templates.

Quick View comes from NextGen with default stored procedures for Quick View and Summary View, plus style sheets for various specialties. An ISD client liked the concept, but felt the NextGen versions contained too much information to be a time-saver. Their providers were most interested in a way to quickly review the diagnoses and plans from previous visits without having to open multiple documents from the History Bar as they were currently doing. They asked ISD to devise a way implement the Summary View feature with the essential information their providers desired.

Although the NextGen documentation for this feature is limited, ISD determined out how it works and how it can be customized. Customization requires knowledge of multiple software technologies, notably: SQL Stored Procedures, Extensible Markup Language (XML), XML Style Sheet Language for Transformations (XSLT) and Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).

ISD has programmed Summary Views for Family Practice and Cardiology and is offering them for purchase. If your practice has different needs or ideas for utilizing this feature, we can develop a custom solution. For a more in-depth explanation, see our ISD White Paper Customizing NextGen Quick Views.
